Chairman’s Letter 2011-12

Do you want something to look forward to as the nights draw in and the weather sets in? How about the start of our new season!?
Salsa in Cuba with ‘Chico and Rita’, then see the realities of the Japanese invasion of China in the hard hitting ‘Nanjing, Nanjing’. Enjoy the Gallic charms of ‘MicMacs’, see the Western from a female perspective in ‘Meeks Cutoff’ then chill out in Iceland to the laid back sounds of Sigue Ros in ‘Heima’. If that doesn’t thrill you, escape to the heat and political intrigue of Chad in ‘A Screaming Man’.
During the current recession you will be pleased to see that we have once again been able to maintain our prices. This is thanks to Everyman who have entered into a closer partnership with us this year in order to allow us to continue running. The cost remains £70.00 for full membership a fantastic saving of £42.00 compared to paying for films on the night at £7.00. If you cannot make all the dates, why not consider a carnet ticket at £30.00 for 5 films.
For more details about the season and membership take a look at our brochure or visit our website, on our Facebook page, or follow us on Twitter @WinFilmSoc.
If you are still hungry for more we are pleased to announce that our members are offered £1.00 off normal ticket prices for the Everyman World Cinema Season.
As you know the Winchester Film Society is run by a committee of hard working volunteers. We are always keen to swell our ranks, widen our own horizons, meet some interesting people. There are plenty of tasks to get your teeth into, so if you are interested in the opportunity drop us an email at winchesterfilmsoc@gmail.com
Finally we will be holding our AGM immediately after the delightful ‘Micmacs’on 13th December 2011. Remember this is your Film Society and this is a chance for you to meet committee members, air your views on what we have been doing and perhaps have some cake!
I look forward to seeing you on the 4th October 2011 when we open with the passionate ‘I am Love’.
Yours
Megan
Chair, WFS
