About Winchester Film Society...

Formed in 1976, Winchester Film Society is this year celebrating its 30th year, and to celebrate this we wanted to do something special.

This is how the idea of the film festival came about.

During our normal season, which runs from October to May each year, we organise screenings every two weeks.

These take place on alternate Tuesday evenings at
The Screen - one of the venues we are using for the film festival.

We aim to show a diverse selection of quality films from all over the world which would otherwise not be screened in the area.

For more details, including the programme for our regular season, check our website.

Over the past five years our membership has grown by 85%, reflecting a healthy surge in local interest in world cinema, particularly amongst younger people.

In the last three years we have gained national recognition at the BFFS awards for our programme of films, website, film notes and marketing.

We have also made efforts to forge wider links with the local community in and around Winchester over the last couple of years. For example, we have organised special summer film screenings in Winchester and Romsey to coincide with the Hampshire Water Festival.

We are set to extend this even more next year with some new and exciting joint ventures - watch the website!
